Under the direction of the City Prosecutor, the Victim Advocate provides support and services to crime victims of the City of Delaware and other jurisdictions within Delaware County. The Victim Advocate works in conjunction with advocates from the Delaware County Sheriff's Office to provide guidance throughout the court process.

Essential Functions: For purposes of 42 USC 12101
  1. Assist victims in navigating the court system.
  2. Communicate with victims via various methods (i.e. mail, telephone, email, in-person, etc.).
  3. Provide assistance and referrals to applicable outside services.
  4. Provide information regarding victim's rights and victim compensation.
  5. Accompany victims to court hearings and advocate on their behalf.
  6. Assist with victim impact statements and restitution.
  7. Notify victims of court proceedings and status of cases.
  8. Assist with post-conviction needs, including providing guidance to assist with restitution collection efforts, community control violations, and record sealing requests.
  9. Participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings
  10. Develop and maintain statistics tracking database for grant requirements.
  11. Cultivate relationships with community partners to facilitate a coordinated community response to violent offenses.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
Physical Requirements
  1. Majority of work is performed in an office environment or courtroom where the physical demands require sitting and standing for extended periods of time; frequent use of computers and standard office equipment; may work under stress of deadlines.
  2. Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions and to communicate effectively with others in person and over the telephone.
  3. Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions and to review, evaluate and prepare a variety of written materials on a computer for extended periods of time.
  4. Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate standard office equipment and computer systems.
  5. Sufficient ability and strength to lift, carry, or otherwise move objects up to twenty (20) pounds for varying distances.
Equipment Operated

Computer, copier, phone, and other standard/modern office equipment; computer software (e.g., Microsoft Office, IC Solutions, and other applicable computer software).

Training, Experience, and Qualifications
  1. Possession of a high school diploma or GED equivalent
  2. Two (2) years prior experience in victim advocacy or the criminal justice system
  3. Any combination of training and experience, which indicates possession of the skills, knowledge, and abilities listed

Grant Funding
This position will be partially funded through a grant administered by the State of Ohio. Accordingly, the position is not guaranteed and will be subject to the availability of such grant funding.
