Position: Parks Mower Operator

Department: Parks and Recreation

Starting Pay: $15.00/hr depending on experience

Status: Seasonal, non-exempt

Seasonal employment is typically April through November (weather and workload permitting). 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday, some weekends and holidays as necessary.

SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Parks Superintendent, the Parks Mower Operator performs duties requiring manual skills and physical strength. The Mower performs a weekly maintenance routine mowing park lawns, including but not limited to riding mowing equipment, lawn care equipment (gas-powered string trimmers, lawn edgers, blowers), and cleanup.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Oversee park lawns and ensure a pleasant appearance of the Kaysville City Parks.
  • Maintain lawns by mowing, edging, mulching leaves, and performing other lawn maintenance functions.
  • Wash, clean, and re-fuel all equipment after use, along with maintenance of equipment, and conduct scheduled repairs as needed.
  • Maybe asked to support the Parks Groundskeepers in the upkeep of flowerbeds, trimming, edging, removing weeds, cleaning, and clearing cemetery grounds of debris.
  • Maintain shop area in a safe and clean manner, including general cleanup, maintenance, and repair of restrooms.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • Graduation from high school or the equivalent (GED).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  1. Ability to operate motorized equipment (trucks & mowers)
  2. Experience in the operation of small equipment, i.e., string trimmers, lawn edgers, riding lawn mowers, and capable of changing irrigation heads.
  3. Have the ability to effectively and positively communicate in person with members of the community.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. Must have a valid Utah Driver's License and deemed insurable.
  2. Must be at least 18 years of age.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Duties include prolonged standing, walking, sitting, climbing, stooping, reaching, kneeling and crawling.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • May be required to work in inclement weather conditions.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee works near moving mechanical parts and operates equipment or machinery. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office or moderately noisy when in the field. May be required to work a varied schedule of hours, which may include early mornings and evenings. May be required to work in inclement weather conditions on occasion.
