Job Description

Program summary

This program immerses participants in the vibrant heart of Houston’s hospitality, convention, and tourism industries. As part of the successful Houston First team, you will have the chance to connect with a diverse array of industry professionals, explore personal and career development opportunities, and collaborate with individuals from all walks of life across the city.

The program is also designed to help you build skills like problem-solving techniques, working in a team, guest service savvy, and effective communication that will help you throughout your career. 

Interviews will begin shortly after the May 2nd application deadline.

What to expect

During this exciting program, you must work quickly and efficiently while exhibiting exceptional service standards, resulting in meaningful interactions with other team members.  Your ability to be flexible will be critical to navigating the variety of projects.  

Application submission deadline: May 1

Program dates: June 1 - July 24

Pay rate: $16 per hour

Work schedule: Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week, with an occasional weekend

Physical conditions: Normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature, and air conditions.  Infrequent exposure to outside elements, including heat and/or humidity, wet conditions, and prolonged standing/walking. Additional personal protective equipment (face shields, goggles, refillable hand sanitizers, etc.) may be required.


Education requirements

Successful applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled and taking classes at an accredited college, university, or higher education program OR have graduated from an accredited college, university, or higher education program within 24 months of the application posting date
  • Have completed at least one semester at an accredited college, university, or higher education program by the time of the program start date 


General requirements
Successful applicants must:

  • Pass a background check and drug screening before starting to work.  Criminal record, educational status, and employment history will be verified.
  • Be at least 18 years of age at the time of application
  • Accept Houston First appearance guidelines
  • Possess unrestricted US work authorization for the duration of the program
  • HFC does not sponsor visas for this program; no exceptions

 

Vetting Timeline:

  • February - applications are being accepted
  • March - selection process begins
  • April - Interview stage
  • May - acceptance letters are sent
  • June - the first day of internship is June 1, 2026
