OVERVIEW OF POSITION / DEPARTMENT The Golf Course Superintendent is entrusted with the responsibility of leading the golf course maintenance operation and management of the golf course and grounds. This position will lead all agronomic programs and practices to ensure consistent conditions align with standards for the facility and customer. Additionally, as an integral part of the management team, this position acts as a representative of the company while promoting the values of the organization. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Directly manage all aspects of golf maintenance department including routine maintenance, staff, project management, and problem resolution. Plans, assigns, monitors, and coordinates all work activities of department staff. Establishes and evaluates cultural and maintenance programs required to maintain all golf course areas. Maintains records and makes recommendations concerning materials, manpower, and equipment used. Maintains and enforces safety regulations and procedures. Ensure all programs and procedures meet standards of maintenance and that continuous improvement is the primary goal and objective of the maintenance team. Manages golf maintenance budget including expenditures, planning, monitoring, and justification. Responsible for the hiring, training, evaluating, and makes recommendations on the disciplining of assigned employees; supervises assigned employees. Monitors turf grass irrigation requirements and schedules requiring irrigation operations. Maintains compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations; and manages golf course environmental programs. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES Coordinates activities, projects and policy making related to turf management practices. Responsible for employee evaluations, training, and development of all staff assigned to the department. Optimize efficiencies and cost saving opportunities by monitoring monthly expenses. Work closely with the General Manager to prioritize capital spending on equipment and projects. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered. EDUCATION High School Graduate or GED. 2- or 4-year Turf Certificate or bachelor’s degree in agronomy, horticulture, or a directly related field. EXPERIENCE At least 5 years progressively responsible experience as an Assistant or Golf Course Superintendent. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED Class A member of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America. Certified Pesticide Applicator within 90 days of employment. Driver's license with clean driving history. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND KNOWLEDGE History of providing exceptional golf conditions with a demonstrated effort in continuous course improvement, team development, self-improvement, and communication. Advanced knowledge of agronomy and turfgrass management and the associated methods, materials, equipment, fertilizers, computer irrigation systems, and pump stations. Strong financial acumen and experience managing budgets. Understanding of the USGA rules of golf. Current federal, state and local laws and regulations affecting the management of golf course operations including, but not limited to, employment, safety and environmental standards, laws and regulations. Utilization and understanding of Best Management Practices (BMP's) to maintain an environmentally friendly course while conserving and protecting natural resources. ABILITIES Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, citizens, contractors, men's and women's golf clubs. Excellent organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Direct and effectively train, develop, and supervise employees. Interpret soil, water, and plant analysis reports. SKILLS Strong interpersonal, fiscal, decision-making, and supervisory skills. Skill in operation of computer and of equipment and tools used in golf course maintenance. Growing turf grasses suitable for the game of golf. #J-18808-Ljbffr
