This position offers the chance to work closely with plant operations and leadership while contributing to financial reporting, cost management, and process improvement initiatives in a collaborative environment. Job Description Our client is seeking an experienced Cost Accountant to support manufacturing operations through detailed cost analysis, financial reporting, and inventory management. This individual will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial data, supporting month‑end close activities, and partnering with cross‑functional teams to drive operational efficiencies and continuous improvement efforts. Key Responsibilities Cost Accounting & Operational Analysis Maintain and refine standard costing methodologies for materials, labor, and overhead. Review manufacturing variances and provide recommendations to improve efficiency and reduce costs. Partner with operations and engineering teams to assess new products, materials, and process enhancements. Assist with budgeting activities and annual cost roll processes. Monitor inventory values and reconcile inventory balances with financial records. Deliver meaningful analysis on product profitability and manufacturing performance. Financial Reporting & General Ledger Prepare journal entries related to inventory, production, and cost allocations. Perform monthly account reconciliations and ensure accuracy of plant‑level financial records. Support month‑end and year‑end close activities. Assist with internal and external audit requests and documentation. Ensure compliance with accounting standards and company policies. Sustainability & Compliance Support Collaborate with internal teams to track and report environmental and operational metrics. Assist with reporting requirements related to sustainability initiatives and regulatory compliance. Monitor expenses associated with recycling and efficiency programs. Support the development of performance metrics and reporting tools. Cross‑Functional Leadership Partner with operations, maintenance, and quality teams to improve overall plant performance. Participate in process improvement and continuous improvement initiatives. Provide guidance and support to junior team members as needed. Communicate financial insights to both accounting and non‑finance stakeholders. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline required. Master’s degree, MBA, or CMA designation is a plus. Minimum of 3 years of cost accounting experience within a manufacturing environment. Strong understanding of cost accounting concepts, inventory management, and GAAP. Experience working with ERP systems; familiarity with AS400 or JD Edwards is preferred. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; Power BI experience is a plus. Exposure to lean manufacturing principles is beneficial. Strong analytical, collaborative, and communication skills.
